Server Downtime

Posted by: Jay January 12, 2010, 06:11:37 PM

xx
Sometime yesterday morning the server that hosts Bazzie Bizzle.com failed due to hardware failure. Shortly thereafter, the decision was made to move the site to another server. This process is now complete. If you can see this message now, that means that your local DNS servers have been updated to reflect this change. We apologize for the downtime and we are optimistic that all issues have been resolved.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our webhost, LunarPages. In less than twenty-four hours they had found the issue, temporarily recovered the sever, set up a new server, and transferred all files and settings. If you're in need of a competent webhost, I can honestly recommend them. In almost two years this was our first major issue and it was resolved quickly and efficiently.

Wiz-7800 1.1.0

Posted by: Jay September 17, 2009, 12:46:43 PM

xx
Our good friend ZX-81 is at it once again! This time he's released a port of Greg Stanton's ProSystem Emulator for the Wiz.

Here's what's new in Wiz-7800 1.1.0 (based on the port he did recently for PSP):
  • Cheat support !
  • New background images
  • Text editor to write your own comments on games
  • Text editor to modify the global cheat.txt file
  • Display first comment line while browsing game files
  • Memory monitoring engine to find your own cheat code!
  • Improve file requester with virtual keyboard to choose sequentially rom files beginning with a given letter
  • Add documentation for settings in help menu
  • A thumbnail image is now displayed in the file requester while selecting any file with the same name of a previously saved game (rom, keyboard, settings). It might be very helpful to recognize that game later if you have thousand different games on your disk and rom folders!

We've set up a new page for Wiz-7800 here.

Stella 3.0 Released

Posted by: Jay September 12, 2009, 12:04:44 PM

xx
After years of hard work and weeks of alpha and beta testing, our good friend Stephen Anthony has released Stella 3.0. Ports for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows have been released. Other ports will be released as they become available. Support has been discontinued for Windows 95/98/ME starting with 3.0.

Here's what's new in the long awaited Stella 3.0:
  • Huge updates to the TIA emulation system. Illegal HMOVEs are now handled correctly, resulting in improvements to many ROMs (thanks to Wilbert Pol for many ideas and code for these improvements). All HMOVE emulation 'cheats' were removed; the emulation is now cycle-exact in this area.
  • Improved emulation of the Cosmic Ark 'starfield effect', also used in Stay Frosty; the emulation now looks very accurate.
  • Many improvements to the normal TIA rendering code, fixing problems when disabling certain graphical objects (certain objects were being misdrawn when others were enabled/disabled).
  • Improved TIA collision handling in the non-displayable area of the screen; this fixes problems in RAMRacer ROM.
  • Improved TIA redraw problems/graphical garbage when ROMs generate many more scanlines than a real TV would allow; this fixes problems in Q-Bert and the recent Playaround demo.
  • Added 'Fixed Debug Colors' option similar to the no$26k emulator. This allows each graphical object to be drawn in a fixed color, more clearly showing how the objects interact. HMOVE blanks are also shown in a different color. The TIA now emulates a 7-color register model, allowing even shared objects to show different colors. This is toggled with the 'Alt Comma' key.
  • Related to 'Fixed Debug Colors', HMOVE blanks can now toggled during TIA display with the 'Alt-m' key.
  • Added rewind functionality to the debugger, where states are saved after each step/trace/scanline/frame advance. Pressing 'Alt-r' or clicking the new rewind button will undo up to 100 previous operations.
  • Added 'electron beam indicator' to the debugger TIA output. Basically, this is a visual pointer indicating the position of the electron gun when scanning the display.
  • Added ability to completely disable fullscreen mode, which fixes problems for some people where fullscreen mode was being entered even if it wasn't enabled.
  • Added '-joyallow4' commandline argument and associated UI item to allow all 4 directions to be pressed simultaneously on a joystick.
  • Improvements made to the ROM launcher: the backspace key now goes to the parent directory (this key can be remapped), and previously selected directories are now automatically selected.
  • Added support for 2IN1 bankswitching scheme, where two ROMs are present in one binary. Currently supported are 2, 4, 8, and 16K ROMs.
  • Added bankswitch support for the 6K version of Starpath/Supercharger ROMS. This allows the 6K version of Cubis to run.
  • Updated bankswitching schemes FASC and MB; they are now known as FA and F0, respectively. This naming brings Stella in line with other emulators and programming utilities.
  • Fixed editing of cheats in the Cheat Dialog; the old cheat wasn't being removed.

You can get it from our Stella page.

  • ability to apply renames to a 3rd datfile (e.g. an artwork datfile)
    • You can select 'apply on sets' or 'apply on roms' method
    • 'Apply On Sets' renames set name (description, year, manufacturer, romof, cloneof, sourcefile tags optionally), while 'Apply on Roms' renames rom name, rom merge tags. In case of roms, it checks the names with and without extensions, so you can easily have them as e.g. *.png
    • This 'Apply' option will only do the renames. Removed, added, replaced sets are not handled
    • Usage example:
      • Enter paths to a MAME .133 datfile as old and MAME .133u3 datfile as new
      • Hit 'diff' and see what the renames......now load a MAME flyersdatfile for .133 as 'Modify DatFile'. Enable 'Apply On Roms' and hit 'Apply Renames'. It will create you a *_new.dat with the updated roms.

You can get it from the ClrMamePro homepage.

Atari++ v1.57 Released

Posted by: Jay August 20, 2009, 08:35:05 AM

xx
A new version Thomas Richter's Atari++ has been released. Atari++ emulates the Atari 5200, 400, 800, 400XL, 800XL and 130XE.

Here's what's new in Atari++ v1.57:
  • Fixed a couple of issues in the GUI, specifically when entering data into string gadgets.
  • Fixed again a couple of exception handling issues in the menu.
  • Made the keypad stick configurable, the keys for joystick emulation are now part of the configuration.
  • Added a dummy front-end, "NONE", that does not render anything to the screen.
  • This release supports .CAS images; however, they are not part of a C: (tape) emulation, but emulated as disks. Depending on the contents of the tape archive, the disk is either considered a boot disk, a binary or a basic file.
  • This release supports better disk support for BASIC and MAC/65 files. If you insert such a file into the emulated disk drive, the emulator
will build a DOS 2.0S compatible disk structure around it and you can load the image from the emulated disk as D:PROGRAM.BAS or D:PROGRAM.ASM. Note that such disks are *not* bootable, you first need to boot, and then turn on the emulated disk drive.

You get it from our Atari++ page.
