The Atari 2600 Video Computer System (VCS), introduced in 1977, was the most popular home video game system of the early 1980's. Now you can enjoy all of your favorite Atari 2600 games on your PC thanks to Stella!
Stella is a multi-platform Atari 2600 VCS emulator. It allows you to play all of your favorite Atari 2600 games again! Stella was originally developed for Linux by Bradford W. Mott, however, it has been ported to a number of other platforms.
Stella is written in C++, which allows it to be ported to other operating systems and architectures. Since its original release Stella has been ported to AcornOS, AmigaOS, DOS, FreeBSD, Linux, MacOS, OpenStep, OS/2, Sega Dreamcast, Unix, and Windows.
As of version 3.0 (09/11/2009) Windows 95/98/ME will no longer be supported. These users will need to use the older 2.8.4 version. Everyone else should use the newer 3.0+ versions.

Please note that there are many ports of Stella and we certainly haven't located them all. However, it is our goal to archive all the emulators we can find. If you have done another Stella port that is not listed here or know of one we don't have (or any other emulator for that matter) please contact us.
Stella's source code can also be built for other platforms (for example, Stella has been reported to compile on IRIX). If you can't find the code you need in the tarball, you can download the latest sourcecode for Stella via SVN.
